Welcome To The Sweet World of Control!

In this website you can find many useful information on control theory in a general sense. The focus is on that part of theory which is useful in real world applications. So, I present the content with a minimum use of mathematics and write the articles as concise as possible. My goal is to provide control engineers and students with a quick reference for their needs.

Currently, you can find articles on PI controller, feedforward control, proportional controller, PD controller, derivative controller, and open loop control system on this website. I will regularly update the content of this website and hopefully in the near future it will cover topics like model predictive control (MPC), nonlinear control, adaptive control, optimal control, etc. as well.

Matlab/Simulink is a very powerful tool for simulation of feedback control systems. But, it is a very expensive software such that many people cannot afford it. The good news is that there are many free high quality online simulators which can be used for simulation of closed-loop control systems with a PID controller in the loop. Some of these webs are listed in the following. You can use these webs for simulating most of the methods explained here.

  • Simulator #1 (Features: online, unity feedback control system, PID controller in series with a first-order plus time delay – FOPTD – process in the forward path, simulation of the unit step setpoint tracking)
  • Simulator #2 (Features: Excel tool to simulate a PID controller on a FOPTD process, open-loop and closed-loop simulations are possible)

Enjoy exploring the website!
